Abstract:
The present study was carried out on 80 clinically healthy volunteer dogs of different age, sex, and body weight. The animals were divided into 8 groupseach of 10 dogs. The pharmacologioal and clinioal effects of the used anae stihetr ic s (Thiopentone &Ketnlnr) and tranquilizers (Stellanile & Sparine) were studied. Some serum biochemical variations and blood changes before and after anaesthesia were alsorecorded. Intravenous thiopentone anaesthesia in a doseof 25.15 mg/kg. b.w~ proved to be n satisfactory short acting general anaesthetic for the dog~During anaesthesia the pulse rate was increased while respiration and temperature decreased, butreturned to normal. ~ntol2& caused a decrease ln erythrocytes, haemoglobin, P.C.V.,and leukoc.ytswhich regained its normality later on~ The increase in G.P.T., crentinine and the decrease in G.O.T.,Total bilirubin, Total protein, and B.U~N., indicated no pathological changes in the liver and kidneyfunct ions. The premedication of thiopentone with stellaniledecreased the amount of annesthetic required .
