Abstract:
Clinical significance of cholesterol and other serum lipids in ruminants has not been paid the neBessary attention until to- date. The present investigation was carried out to demonstrate the pattern of total lipids total ch~lesterol , cholesterolfractions and HDL- cholesterol in the serum of normal and diseasedbuffaloe and camel. Thirty- two buffalo serum sam?les werecolle~ted from the slaughter house • Of which thirteen were ob- tained from normal individuals, nine from buffaloe which had mild fasciola infestation in the U_er (groUP I) and ten fromc’ase8 which had moderate to severe lesions offascioliasis ( group 11 )Analysis of the sera of diseased buffaloe re- vealed decrease of the tested parameters which was significantin the second group of buffaloe. The changes were attributed to liver damageSixty-four serum samples were obtained from apparantlY normal camelsDiaGnosis of trypanosomiasis was attempted by blood film examination and mercuric chloriGe agglutination test.Of the total number of the camels examined, twenty-three were recognised negative for trypanosomia~is ,fourteen were positive only by serological testing and twenty-seven camels revealed positive results with both blood film and mercuric chloridetest.
