Abstract:
The present study was mainly undertaken to investi- gate the causes of the inflammatory conditions of thelacrimal apparatus in equines.A·study of the anatomy of the lacrimal drainege system was performed on 26 equine heads. The nasolacrimal duct was injected through the nasalpunctum with latex and India ink as colouring matter for the gross anatomy, Barium sulphate 70 % was also injectedto study the c our ee of the duct radiographicBlly. Minor anatomical differences bet’l.js·en horses, donkeysand mules were detected and result recorded and discussed·The results of the anatomical study revealed that the nasolacrimal duct of equines was surrounded by boneor cartilage over less than half of its course. This might predispose this species to obstructive nasolacrimaldi se a se a, A group of 25 animals (6 horses and 19 donkeys)Buttering from different affections of the lacrimal apparatus were examined. The le ad on s were re lated to thelacrimal drainage sy stem.
