Abstract:
Furazolidone possesed a cholinergic stimulant activity on the isolatedchicken duodenum, ileum and oviduct. Atropine sulphate blocked the stimula-tory effect of the drug, whereas large dose of nicotine could not. On the other hand amprolium HCL. inhibited the motility of the isolated chicken duodenum, ileum and oviduct, through a ganglio-nic blocking activity. Small dose of nicotine failed to produof isolated duodenum, ileum and oviduct of chicken. Effect on skeletal muscle:Furazolidone diminished the response of the rectus abdominis muscleto acetyl choline or to the indirectly stimulated diaphragm and gastrocnemiusmuscles. The effect was of a competitive in nature as neostigmine restored the response of skeletal muscle to acetyl choline or to the electrically stimulated preparations.Similar resul ts were obtained by amprolLum HCL. as well as by thecombination of furazolidone and amprolium HCL. Effect on cardiovascular system and respiration:Furazolidone diminished force and frequency of contractions of theisolated chicken auriclesand toad’s heart of cholinergic ’In nature.
