Abstract:
A b-iochemic:al stud~ was made on 22 atrains of fa!teurg:lla multoaida.isolated from. chickens, turkeys. and ducks. 81 •. 81% - l of, t-hesa isolates fermented fructosetglucose, sucraset mannit~l and xylose, 4.54-18.18% fermentedarabinose, maltose and dulcitol. Fer.oentation of lactosewas negative with 100% of the isolates.Growth on NacConkey agar, change of litmus milk andmethyl red. Production of hydrogen sulphide and·hemolysin, liquifaction of gelatin and motility were negative in allcul tures. Production of indol and ammoni, reduction of ntratesto nitl”’ites and urease activity were demonstrated by allisolates .Results reported here show very marked uniformity in the biochemical characteristics of all cultures studied~ sonone of these biochemical tests will determine the host fr0mwhtch the culture was isolated. The object of biochemical studies is to differentiateand determine organisms by their biochemical culturalproperties for further investigations.
