Abstract:
The present investigation was directed to study blood coag- ulation mechanism and certain blood coagulation factors(Fac.I, VIII and IX) in calves.Thus,80 native calves were used forthis purpose. The blood samples obtained from the calves weregrouped into 4 groups; the first group incl~ded 20 male calves,1-2 months old, during summer. The second group was composed of20 male calves,6-8 months old, during summer. The third groupwas consisted of 20 male calves,6-8 months old, during winter. The fourth group comprised 20 female calves,6-8 months old, during summer. The following tests were performed on each blood sampleusing the automated method (fibrometer): Prothrombin time(P.T),Activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) ,Assays of coagu-lation factor VIII & IX activities and determination of-plasmaFibrinogen content. The P.T % was calculated from the deter-mined P.T using the prothrombin calculator disc. The effects ofage, sex and seasons (summer and winter) on the P.T , P.T % ,APTT ,coagulation factor VIII & IX activities and .on fibrino-gen concentration were also studied by comparing the obtainedresults.Other tests were performed on blood samples of the2 nd. group which are: Platelet count,Serum calcium determin-ation,Bleeding time,Whole blood coagulation time,Clot retract-ion and Clot lysis tests. The obtained results are:
