Abstract:
900 imported frozen chickens were examined forincidence of Salmonellae.154 Salmonella serotypes could be isolated andidentified from examined samples (17.11%).The incidence of salmonellae in examined samplesdiffered according to the country of origin and rangedfrom ~5.2 to 28.8%). Salmonella typhi-murium was themost prevalent serotype.(35,7t)Isolated Salmonella ay ton, S. eppendorf, S. fyrisand S. sofia are considered as new serotypes entroducedto Egypt through imported frozen chickens.Evaluation of media recommended for recover ofSalmonellae, pointed out that buffer peptone water, aspre-enriched medium followed by brilliant green selectivesolid medium excelled lactose tergitol broth and othersolid selective media. All isolated strains (154) were tested against (11)antibiotics and (2) chemotherapeutic agents. The isolatedstrains were resistant to Erythromycin, Neomycin andpenicillin G. They showed a variable resistance to:(12.33%) for ampicillin, (79.22%) cephalexin, (20.12%)chloramphenicol, (44.80%) gentamycin, (57.14%) kanamycin,(11.03%) Nalidixic acid, (94.80%) streptomycin, (79.87%)
