Abstract:
The present work was done to show the role of rumen microorganisms in the metabolism of drugs and theirability to modify the toxic dietary substances. This work was conducted as follows:After a singleintraruminal dose of 5 and 10 g NaN03 / 100 kg b.w., the highest values of nitrates were 36.71and 67.31 mg / 100 ml rumen fluid respectively after 30 min. of the experiment. The highest values of nitrite were 1.759 and 2.7 mg / 100 ml rumen fluid recorded 1/2 and 1 hour after thehighest value of nitrate was attained. The nitrite concentration, corresponded to the dose of nitrate administered. The levels of nitrite fell slowly reaching the normal levels 8 hours after dosing of 5 & 10 g NaN03 /100 kg b.w.The ,plasma nitrite concentration reached its maximum level(0.878 and 1.665 ug / ml blood) after 1 and 2hours after the administration of 5 & 10 g NaNo3 / 100 kg b.w. respectively. The concentration was lowered again tonormal levels around 8 hours of the experiment. The maximum methaemoglobin percentage was about8.31% of the total blood haemoglobin recorded about after
