Abstract:
The present work was planned to study some bio- chemical al terations in the blood of rats under the effect of age and starvation. Seventy seven male rats were selected and kept under good hY:Ji~nic measurements. The-samples of blood were collected from e1.5, 2.0 and 2.5months, as weel as under the effet of starvation after, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours starvationrespectively. The samples of collected blood and serum were subjected to biochemical analysis for the following parameters:1) Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (erythrocytes)2) Reduced glutathione (erythrocytes)3)Superoxide dismutase (Blood).4) ¥-glutamyl transferase (serum)5)Blood picture red blood cell count, packed cell volume haemoglobin and blood indices. The results obtained could be summarized as follows:1) The erythrocytic glucose -6-phosphate dehydrogen- ase showed a significant decrease in the meanvalues with advanced age and the effect of star-
