Epidemiological Studies on Animal Pathogens Causing Infantile Diarrhea in Sharkia Governorate

Abstract:
The present work was conducted on 100 householdout of 1514 hou$es, randomly selected from four villagesat rural Belbeis area, Sharkia Governorate. from theinvestigated hosuest stool specimens were collectedfrom 100 ~nfants (66 were diarrheal cases) as well as 66mothers incontact with infant diarrheal cases. Also 100stool specimens were collected fromdifferentanimal species and birds of which 37 animals and 28 birdswere living incontact ’1-ith infan•t diarrheal cases. Thesespecimens were subjected for isolation and identificationof infant diarrheal causative agents. Antibioticssensitivity as well as effect of some chemical disinfectantswere tested against some isolated microorganisms.The obtained results revealed the following:1- Infantile diarrhea was very high in EI-Fadlia village(76.9%) followed by El-Gendia (72.7%), K-Ibrahim(69.2%) and K-Ayoub (60.0%).2- The regional distribution of isolated diarrhealagents rev.ealed that E. coli was high in EI-Gendia(62.5%) followed by K-Ibrahim (55.6%) and K-Ayoub(50.%), while Proteus species was high in K-Ayoub(26.7%) and K-Ibrahim (22.2%). Klebsiella specieswere more prevalent in infant of El-Fadlia (40.0%),meanwhile C.jejuni was found in infants of both
