Some studies on downer cow syndrome

Abstract:
The aim of the present investigation was forstudying ; the pathophysiological factors that mayplay a role in the predisposi tion , pathogenesis oroccurrence of the Downer syndrome problem in cattle.Studying the effect of age, pregnancy, parturi-tion and lactation on some serum constituents ofEgyptianclinicallycowsnormalbuffaloesandrevealed that, there was a general tendency for adecrease in serum calcium , phosphorusand magnesiumlevels wi th age. And the calcium level was low inpregnant than non pregnant animals.The levels of calcium and phosphorusyoung age (up to 1 . year) recorded high was0.649 mg% and 8.40 ± 0.428 mg% respectively.at the13.87 ±The Ca/Pratio was increased in non pregnant than pregnantanimals.Studying the incidence of the ”Downer syndrome”,the resul ts obtained indicated that, the percentageof morbidity rate for Downer.animals to the total healthyand other diseases were 0.85% and 4.80%.
