Abstract:
In the present study, the taxonomic classification of the two important ticks for cattle in Egypt, Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum and H. anatolicum excavatum, as subspecies was studied by experimental laboratory investigations on their life cycle, host sprent animal hosts) and morphological characters. Furthermore, field examinations on their ecology were carried out during several months.H. anatolicum anatolicum collected from cattle, and H. ana- tolicum excavatum from camel, showing the typical morphologi-cal characters were allowed to feed on different animal hosts as gerbils, rabbits, cattles and camels. H. anatolicum exca- vatum underwent three-host development in all used experimen-tal animals, whereas H. anatolicum anatolicum also proved to be of the three-host type when feeding on gerbils, cattles and camels. On rabbits as larval host, it revealed to bepartially of the two-host type. Some _newly moulted adults of the following generation in both subspecies after breeding them on cattle or camel showed some morphological inconstancybetween the two forms.from two engorged females of H. anatolicum anatolicum collec-ted from the ground of a cattle house, at Wadi el Gedeed in Upper Egypt, larvae and nymphs were bred on cattle under la- boratory conditions. Of the newly moulted adults 100 % showedclear structures of Hyalomma anatolicum anatolicum
