Studies On The External Parasites Infesting Aquatic Egyptian & Migratory Birds

Abstract:
A survey was curried out on the external parasites of aquatic birds during December 1979 till November, 1980. Migratory ducks were collected from Lake Abbasa; Abo Hammad, Sharkiu while demesticated ducks and geese were collected from five canters Abo-Hammad, Belbis, Hihia, Meniat EI-Kameh and Zagazig; in Sharkin Governorate. A number of 3191 aquatic birds including 131 migratory ducks, 2132 domesticducks and 928 domestic geese were examined. The infestation rate of lice in the migrat- ory ducks was 17.56%, however the highest incidence(66.66%) was in March 1980 and lowest (6.25%) in January 1980. Five speciesof lice were detected An~~~col~crassicornj.,!!, ~ .9.1!£.!;9.U1d;ul~£, ;Menncq,ntlm.€!cornutus,~rsiq,~9:sculq.r:i:.§and ’I’ril1;2i9y11 1:,Ilserinum from four species of migratory ducks (Common pochard,Pintail, Shoveler and Teal), The incidence pf the collected lice vias 13.74%, 6.87%, 2.29~~, 2.29% and 0.76%respectively. Also the infestation rate of each lice species on the different migratory ducks was given.
