Influence Of Hypothyroidism On Pregnacy In Rabbits

Experimentally induced hypothyroidism through surgic~l thyroidectomy, both at nud pregnancy and 21 days before mating, Was performed,. Blood sampleswere collected weekly from the first day of gestation until after birth, for ho rmonc.L and mineral determin-ation in the plasma.Samples from the uterus were also taken to measure the degree of the % uptake of 3H •The radioimmunoassy technique was used for oestrogen progesterone illld PGF2~determination.1- The relationship_ between thyroid activitY and the reproductive tract,duration of Bregnancy and foetiwas summarised as follows :-1- The duration of pregnancy was prolonged beyond normal term in the group of thyroidectomy at 15 days post coitum.2- Premature delivery was noticed in the group in which thyroideotomy Wo.s performed 21 days before coitum.3- Retardation af growth of the foeti was reco- rded in the two groups.
