Abstract:
The present study was undertaken to investigate the eff- ect of age, sex, and seasonal variations on the blood clott- ing factors of buffalo calves.Screening coagulation tests including prothrombin time , activated partial thromboplastin time , factor VIII & factor IX assay ,and fibrinogen determination were detected in diff-erent age, sex and season groups of Egyptian buffalo calves.Determination of serum calcium , blood platelets count’, wh- ole blood coagulation time , clot retraction and fibrinolysis were also carried out during summer season in 1 - 2 month agemale calves. The results obtained were :1- Plasma fibrinogen Vias higher in 6-8 month old calves(6l4 mg %)than younger ones(534 mg%) , in male calves(534 mg%)than females(399 mg’ %) of the same age and during winter (534 mg %) than summer(446 mg %) season2- In young male buffalo calves, the blood platelets countwas 300 000 /ul. The mean value of serum calcium was 9.16mg / 100 ml. The observed value of whole blood coagulat- ion time was 5 minutes. Clot retraction was detected after 2 hours while fibrinolysis was not detected during 72 hours.
