Abstract:
The present study was designed to clarify the irra~iationeffect on kidneys of rats as an experimental animal interpretedby the histopathological and histochemical changes in relationto time and dose of irradiation.A total number of 210 mature rats-Rattus narvegicus- ofboth sexes were used in the present work. Animal were exposedto irradiation using the machine of Siemens Stabilipan type(300 kilo voltage; 14.8 milli-Amper; 1 mm cu half va.Lue;thickness; 50 cm focal skin thickness) and the dose rate was96.2 centrigray (cGy) per minute. Rats \ivere assigned,. into sixgroups;according to the dose and site of irradiation as follows:Group (1) : 800 cGy of local irradiation of the kidney;Group (IL) : 400 cGy ” ” 11• Group (Ill): 100 cGy 11 ” ”Group (IV) : 050 cGy ” ” ”Group (V) : 100 cGy of the whole body irradiationGroup (VI) : 100 cGy of irradiation to the upper part only. Each group composed of 25 rats in addition to other 10 withinthe same group as contr91. Five rats of each dose within thesame group were sacrificed iriiriledia tely tone t two, three andfour months atter irradiation. Blood sample was taken fromeach rat just before the time of’ sacrification .• Serum was usedto estimate ALKP-ase, GOT, GPT, creatinine and BUN •
