Abstract:
Ascaridia galli is a cosmopolitan parasite of chick- ens, it affects the performance of the birds, reducing thegrowth rate and body gain in broilers and decreasing egg production in laying hens.Regarding this economic importance, our study was undertaken to investigate the pharmacological properatiesof pyrantel tartrate in chickens. Studies were performed on isolated organ preparations of chickens and intact birds concerning the blood pressure and respiration. Its effectson serum calcium (Ca.) and Phoshorus (P.) levels and on serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) serum glut-amic pyrovic transaminase (SGPT) and alkaline phosphatase(Al.p.) activities were determined. Histopathological effects on chicken’s organs were also investigated. Deter-mination of the drug LDSO’ its efficacy on Ascaridi a galli infestation and its effect on egg production in laying henswere studied.1- Pharmacological propereties of pyrantel tartrate:A.
