Abstract:
This investigation was carried out to study the protective power of formalized, oil-adjuvant, aluminiumgel-adjuvant and heat-inactivated salmonella gallinarum- pullorum vaccines when admfni at.eaed to chickens in one or two doses, as well as the serologlcal effects resultingfrom administration of these vaccines. The different Salmonella gallinarum-pullorum vaccines were used by both oral or subcutaneous routes in immunizingone- day old chickens, when the birds were challenged 15 dayslater the oil-adjuvant vaccine e.ither given orally or sub-cutaneously, as well as the formalized vaccine when inocul- ated subcutaneously gave complete protection while the othervaccines failed in protecting the vaccinated birds. The sera were collected from vaccinated chickens 15 days after vaccination as well as 15 days after challengeThe agglutinin levels in vaccinated chickens were higher than those of control but markedly lower than those of challenged ones.Chickens were vaccinated with two doses of differ- ent vaccines challenged on 15, 30 and 45 days after secondvaccination.
