Abstract:
Chicken in Egypt were investigated for external parasites during the period from February 1981 to January1982, 557 chicken of three different breeds namely(Ba1ady Dokii 4 and Faumy were examined. Thet were of 2 age groups1 month to 1 year and the second group was one to three years. The incidence of infection with lice was 41.2 %throughout the peroid of investig~tion. The highest n~~bers of infested chicken occurred in Spring (61.2%). thelowest numbers appeared in Autumn (22.8%). A relatively moderate incidence was noticed during Winter and Summer()8.4% and 44.6%) respectively.The seasonal abundance of lice was found to vary during the period of infestation, the minimum mean number oflice per bird occurred in October and maximum one was in May.The infestation tate was found to change according to the age of chicken. Chicken aging 1 month to one yearharboured more lice than those of one year to three years.Fenale chicken were more infested than males. The number .of Menopon ga11inaeand Menacanthus cornutus per bird reached its peak in Spring (4?2% and 2.8%) and lowest number wos in Autumn (1.2% and 1.3%).The distribution of Menopon gal1inae and Menacanthus cornutus on” the various body region of chicken was also
