Abstract:
The present study waS carried out to investigate the role of Nile fishes which act as Becund intermediatehosts of some trematodes to dog~ th~ough consumption of their meat. Samples from 559 fishes were examined, either fresh or after being prepared for the detection of encysted metacercariae. 54.03 % of the fishesexamined harbouredencystedmetacarcariae in their muscles. The fishes examined were Tilapia £E. Bagrus bayad, Syndontis schall and Lates niloticus from the different localities of Nile, They revealed that therate of infestation with encysted metacercariae were 69.57 , 62.71 , 46.26 and zero % respectively. Monthlyprevalence of encysted metaceraria had been noticed among the different species of fishes. The highestprevalence of encysted metacercariae was during Ueptember in case of Tilapia £E. and Bagrus bgyad and in Decemberin Syndontis schall • Also seasonal incidence showed that the rate of infestation of Tilapia with encystedmetacercariae was nearly eqpal during the four seasons of the year. Bagrus bayad showed a high incidenceduring the autumn and in Syndontis schall was during winter.
