Abstract:
Concentrate deprivation ~nd urea-molasses supplement-ation had a marked ef:ect on ration composition inc-luding a decrease in dry matter, Organic , matter ,crude protein, ether extract and nitrogen free extr-act but there was a slight increase in crude fibrewith similar decrease in digestibility and feedingvalue of treated rations.2-The mean r-um i.na L pH values showed no significant changeswith concentrate deprivation and urea-molasses suppl-ementation, while increasing urea percentage in rationsshowed a significant higher pH values after feeding3- Concentrate deprivation and urea -molasses supp1ement-at ion had no significant effect on ruminal ammonia con-centration although there was a marked significantincrease 1-2 hours after feeding.4- No effect on either mean values of total volatilefatty acids or the time of sampling was revealedbetween the aifferent rations. The molar proportions of individual volatile fattyacids showed a variable effects although the aceticacid proportion was higher in ruminal fluid of tre-ated groups than control, the propionic acid.
