Effect of storage and time and temperature on the potency of fmd vaccine in cattle under field envirment

Abstract:
Serological and immunological studies of baby hamster kidney (BHK) cell culture, aluminium hydroxide gel adsorbed, formalin inactivated FMDtype 01 vaccine stored for different periods at vrious temperatures were carried out on calves and guinea pigs”- The stored vaccines were tested in groups of calves each of 5 animals. The calves vaccinated o - with vaccines stored at 4 C for periods of 2 weeks,3, 6 and 9 months possessed protective neutralizing antibody titres in their blood sera for up to 3 mrnthspost-vaccination. In calves ,FMD vaccine stored for one year at40C is able to induce serum neutralizing antibodies of imperative titre at 21 3nd 60 days post vaccina-tion but not more. FMD vaccines stored for two years at 4°C and for 10 days at room temperature irrespect the seasonin Egypt, were not able to induce serum neutralizing antibodies of protective titre in vaccinated animals.
