Clinicopathological studies on some commonly used schistosomal drugs and its interaction with contraceptive drugs in albino rats

Abstract:
Forty adult female albino rats were used, their weight ranged from 150 - 200 gm (with average weight 175 gm) divided into four eq ual groups (groups I - 4) to study the blood chemistry andhistopathologic lesions under the effect ofpraziquantel, Microvlar-30and their combination. Group (1) was orally given 4 therapeutic dosesof praziquantel (40 mg/k.g. B.wL), with 15 days intervals. Group (2)was orally given daily doses (13.5 and 2.7 ug from levo-norgestrel andethinyl-estradial respectively / leg. B. wt) of Microvlar-30 for 60 days.Group (3) was given both treatments of group (1 and 2). Group (4) keptas a control. The animals were equally sacrificed at the end of 8th weekof treatment. Serum was collected for blood chemistry. Specimens werecollected from the liver, kidneys, heart, uterus, ovaries and intestine.The clinicobiochemical analysis showed the picture of hepatocellular damage in groups (l,2 and 3). The picture wasmanifested by a significant increase in the level of AL T, AST andalkaline phosphatase in groups Cl, 2 and 3). The total bilirubin was not
