Abstract:
Ninty two albino rats were used in this work(20 rats were control). 72 rats were divided into12 groups. The first six groups were given 0.2 %,0.5 %, 1.0 %,1.2 % and 1.5 % NaNo) for 150 days,while the second 6 groups were given 0.2 %. 0.4 %,0.5 %, 0.6 % , 1.0 % and 1,2 % NaN02 for 150 days.The clinical signs:Were more prominant in sodium nitrite toxicosisthan in sodium nitrate. These signs included decr-ease of the growth ra.te and milk consumption, yello-wish-brown colouration of hair, anorexia, inabil-ity to move, dullness, drowsiness, weakness, ~mac-iation and disturbauce in the reproductive perfor-mance.~acroscopic appearance:The uterus of rats, poisoned with sodium nitr-ate, showed absorbed feati, congestion, haemorrh-gic and greyish-yellow areas of variable sizes hadbeen detected in heart, liver, spleen and kidneysof rats poisoned with sodium nitrate and nitrite.brain showed congestion and haemorrhages~icroscopic appearancE:The microscopical picture wae more clear and
