Abstract:
Bergapten is one of the furocoumarines present inthe medicinal plant—Ammi majus L (family Umbellifere) 4s proved to be of value when given orally in S.mansoniinfction.In this present study, the aritischistosonial effect, the bichemical activity, and the histopatlwlogical changes of bergapten were discussed and proved to be of value in comparison with the two other, well known oral drugs; Niridazole(ambilhar), end LucanI— The antischistosomal effect:As regards, the antischistosomal screening, using the perfusion and ehnLqu showed that berg— apten was more or less similr to that of niridazole and lucanthone when used in treatment S.mansoni iuf e— cted mice. )iarked reduction percents were observed(47.•,86.6%,and85.4>) with complete hepatic shift (92IOOe) and IOOc oogram change.
