Abstract:
cats in Egypt have been invested in details for fleas Lnf’e ctd o n, The i:lcid ence , seasonal variation, thepredelection seats, as well as the identification of the collected types from them were recorded and comparatively identified with those collected from dogs of the samelocalities. Indeed, a total of 167 cats and 101 dogs were subjected to further methods for collection of their fleaswhere 1199, 199 fleas were collected from 127 (72.7%), and 52 (51.5%) infected cats and dogs respectively, the flea index for cats and dogs were 9.44, 2.3. The most predom-inant species collected from cats was ctenoceEhalidesfelis felis (90.6%), followed by Pulex irritans (7.5%) andXenopsylla cheoRis (1.9%), while the dogs ewamined harb- oured ctenocephalides felis felis but ctenocephalidescanis was extremelt rare. Autumn and Spri ng were theseasons of provalence of fleas among cats. Fleas of cats were present all over the body parts without a specificpredelection seat where 27.9 and 24.5% of the fleas were found on the head and neck, fore limb and chest, abdomen,and hind-tail region respectively, while the fleas on dogs were restricted on the head and neck region (51.3%) than the other parts of the body.
