Abstract:
Pigeons of the type Columba livia schim2eriin Egypt have been morphologically and bioloGically inves-tigated for a single enteric nematode and a single cestode which were identified as Ascaridia columbae andCotugnia ILolyacantha. The morphology of the mature stage and the actual shape of the egg in each worm has beenbriefly, accurately and critically studied with special reference tD presently detected important features,\mich have not been discussed by previous workers. However, the incidence of infestations were estimated to be 13.6 and 37.4 % in Asc aridi a and Co tpgniawor-msrespectively. The localisation of both types of worms under discussion with El. special r-ef’er-enc e to their areaof concentration ~vi thin the small intestine, has been determ.ined. The former has been found to occupy an areamaximally in the second quarter Leve L, while C9tugniaworms appear to concentrate in the first. The pH of the various intestinal quarters of thehabitat of the parasites has been electrometrically determined, in the above mentioned type of pigeons, duringnormal, as well as during infestation vdth Ascaridia
