Abstract:
The white culture mouse (Musculus albLinus),theNiLe rat (arvicaanthis niloteus) and the Guinea pig (Cavia porcellus).) in Egypt, have been bio10gically investigated in detail for their degrees of susceptibility to Schietosomamag~£~ infestation, with a particular reference to the comparative role played by the parasite and these tYP8S of hosts, to thj.s established association, hoping to obtain acomparatively larger experimental host than the mouse 9 for both, maintaining the parasite and cbta~~ing sufficientmaterials needod for further studies on the parasite itself. The Prezent study revealed that with the percutaneoustechnique ”tail and dipping, methods ’”, the number of thereccverad worms from the tbre8 investigated. types of hosts, appeared mere enou.cag tng than that wi with the subcutaneonstechnique, generally, at the end of the prepatent period(44-47 days in case of mice, 44-48 days in Case of Nile rat),100 and 150 days. Indeed, the Nile rat gave a relatively large number of’ wo rms at the end of uhe above mentionedperiods, besides keeping the parasite for a longer period withJut selfcure, and could resist infection up to 300 cer- cariae without fatal effects, a character which was not
