Abstract:
Two hundred and twenty one day old chicks of ourindigenous breed Fayoumi were experimented on to studythe effe ct of adding d~~_:=ferent fats to 00 th growing andlaying rations. The fats used in this investigation weresunflower seed oil, camel hump fat as plant oil and animalfat and a mixture of equal parts of these two types offat~ The etherial extract of the rations with added fatwas, 6.7% compared with 2% in the basal diet. The xesultsobtained from this investigation were :1. The effect of the type of fat on growth rate ofmale chickes was only apparent during the acceleratedgrowth mainly (3-14 weeks) however, its effect startedto fade away after this age. In case of females theaddition of fats and its type appears to be highly nece-s~ary during the life of the females (mature)speciallyduring the period from 15-20 weeks whi~~ corresponds tothe laying period in this work.2. The growth rate of the groups fed on diet withadded animal fat was the superior followed by those fedon diet with mixed fats, then the group supplemented withlant oil and lastly those fed on basal diet.
