Abstract:
This study aimed to investigate the immune response of rabbits vaccinated with vaccinia virus It (Lister strain), b,. two techniques. The first one was practiced in eight rabbits by scarification, while in the second, scarification followed by three successive intravenous boosterdoses at monthly intervals was practiced in seven rabbits. The results were’studied by complement fixation, haemagglutination inhibition, neutralizat ion and agar gel precipitation tests.Complement fixing antibodies were not detectedbefore the elapse of the 15th day from scarification and extended to nine months. The neutralizing ant ib od Le s wer-e detected in the blood of infected rabbit even after one year from scarification,by this time a f’ew showed ant lhaemagglut inat ing antibodies les but only in a 10vJ titre. The booster effect of the intravenous injections were clearly demonstrated in the form of higher levels and longerduration of antibodies.
