Abstract:
Baby hamster kidney cells Were grown insuspensions cultures- using .Mod ified Eagler’s medium and the same medium when depleted from its amino acid content and replaced by varying percentages of lactalbumin hydrolysateand/or peptone. Studying the effect of amino acid depletions on the growth of a cloned.strain of BHK Cl-13 cells in suspension cultures, the .results showed that haLf the amount of amino acids present in Modified Eagle’s medium was enough to give nearly tb( 2.04 x 10 6 cells/ml) compared with that which contained the fullamount of amino acids (2.30 x 106 cells/ml).Supp lementation of Modified Eagle;s medium contained 1/4 the amount of amino acids w i.bh 0.25 lactalbumin hydrolysate or 0.5 % peptone yield nration as that cells growing in Modified Eagle~s medium w i tihfull am ounf of amino acids. Growing of BHK 21 Cl 13 cells in Modified Eagler~3 medium whi ch contained no amino acids but supplemented w i. tb varying con-centrations of eitber Lactalbumin hydrolysate or peptone sbowed.variable data in comparison with that of Eagle;s medium having the amino acids.
