Abstract:
100 samples were collected from healthy and diseased bovine (67 from buffaloes and 33 from cows) and examined for the isolation and identification of streptococcal species2. The samples were seeded on a variety of culture.media and incubated under different environmental conditions in order not to miss any organism that might need some special requirements3~ 112 isolates were obtained and differentiated bioc-hemically and serologically into 12 species :s. bovis, S. agalactiae, S. uberis, S. faecium, S • faecalis var. liguefaciens, S. cremoris, S. lactis,s. Pyogenes, S. durans, S. faecalis, S. zymogs. eguinus atypical faecalis group and the viridans grou 4. The most predomjnant species was S. boviswhich were .’ isolated from all samples examined. It constituted41~9% from the total isolates~5~ There were 36 strains that could be identified from faecal samples into four species viz.; S. bovis, S.faecium, S. faecalis var. liquefaciens, S. uberis and atypical faecalis group~S. faecium was isolated Jfrom the faeces of young calves The tetrazolium agar medium (TITG) was used to differentiate
