Abstract:
This 5tudy is conducted on ;0 teats and 12 specimens ot udder tisaue of buffaloes. The wall of the teat con-a1.tecl of skin, Intermediate and Mucosal layers. The epidermls was thin and possessed an ~ll-definedkeratin layer in calves, slightlythidker in heifers andthick and highly keratinized in p~egnant and lactatinganimals.The papillae of the papillary layer were ill-develo~in the teat of calves, unbranched in heifers and well -deye~oped and branched in pregnant and lactating anima~$.The r~ticular layer of the skin joined directly th& underlying intermediate layer.Hair follicles, sebaceous and sweat glands were foundin the skin covering the base of the teat.Alkaline phosphatase enzyme waS noticed in the keratinlayer, in the granular and cut.er polygonal cell layers ofthe epidermis ~f the skin; it increased during pregnancylnd hardly existed in aged buffaloes.
