Abstract:
Distribution of ferula species allover the worldwas recorded with special reference to Egypt. The ohemical constants of Femla marmaz-t ca plantshave been determined. The result s obtained show thatshoo1$s oorrb af,n a higher moisture percentage +han tYLe roo t awhf.Le moisture content of flowers and fruits is about equalThe shoots also contain higher percentages of rela-clvemOisture, ash and crude protein th~n the roots. The rootsand fruits contain more nitrogen-free compounds th&’1 theshoots and flowers. The total lipids and crude fi b ro con-tents of the roots are greater than t::1at of the otherorgans.Success1 ve extraction of the dry plant powder vd thdifferent solvents has been carried out, The resuJjisobtained show tr.J.8.t alcohol had the highest extract contentfollowed ’by petroleum ether, chloroform and finally diethylether. The total extracts increased from roots, shoots ,flowers to the fruits.Selective solvent extraction showed ethyl alcohol70~h to be the most efficient solvent for extraction ofall organs.
