Abstract:
In the present investigation, sev~ral experiments were conducted to determine the isotonic concentration ofsome electrolytes and non-electrolytes for the viability of goat semen Ss well as to determine the optimal combina-tion of both with protector (egg yolk or casein) in order to develop suitable diluents for goat semen preservation. In the first series of experiments, an incubation temperature of 41°0 was compared with room temperaturefor determination of the opt~mal concentration. Further experiments were designed to determine the optima~ concetration of electrolytes (sod. chloride, sod. phosphate, sod. citrate and sod. salt of EDTA) and non-electrolytes (glycine and glucose) on Viability of goat semen.Using the triangular tricomponent method, egg yolk or casein was mixed with the isotonic concentration ofelectrolytes and non-electrolytes in order to develop diluents suitable for goat semen preservation. The optimal concentration of any tested SUbstance that concentration aSSociated with the highest viabi- lity index, longest duration of not less than 70% or 50% forward motility and longest motility duration.
