Abstract:
Vaginal smears from 300 buffaloes in Egypt) during theirdifferent months of pregnancy wer-e examined for two purposes :1- Studying the variations in vaginal cytology during pregnancy.2- Observation of the vaginal mucus crystallization patternduring the different months of pregnancy.simple t.o chnd que was introduced for collection of thevaginal smears for studying the epithelium and mucus and theWrigh t’ s - Le i shman stain was us edI) Evaluation of the results of the vaginal epithelium was doneby a simple method which depends on the type and colour ofthe cells found in the smears, i.~., the cells were classi-fied into :.-1- Small, ov&l, violet (with a longitudinal diameter lesst.han 40 m.i er-on) •2- Intermediate, neutral (with a longitudinal dimneterbetween 40 and 60 micron).3- Large, cornified red cells (greater than 60 micron).4~ Vaccuolation of th~ cells was recorded.5- The amount of mucus and frequency of leucocytes werenotic ed ,6- The cell nuclei were observed (pycnotic or vesicular).
