Abstract:
Ovariohysterctomy was done on 51 native breed bitches ranging in age between 6 months to 5 years and ranged from8-20 Kg in weight • The operations were performed under the effect of eitherepidural anaesthesia using 1% solution of procaine HCl, comp- leted with linear infiltration anaesthesia from the umbilicus to the xiphoid cartilage using the sam~ drug, or general ana-esthesia using nesdonal preceded by combelen as a preanaesthe-tic midication. Laparotomy incision was done in the midline (linea alba)extending from just behind the xiphoid cartilage to the prepu- bic region.Different types of suture materials were used namely, Silk, Nylon and Cat gut for ligation of the ovarian stump and ovarian blood vessels.The use of silk leads to adhesions between the ovarianpedicle, omentum, spleen and abdominal wall from inside, theuse of nylon leads to adhesions between the ovarian pedicleand small intestine, while the use of catgut resulted in sli-ght adhesions between the ovarian pedicle and the kidney. Operated an.irna Ls were classified according to the surgical technic applied to the uterine stump into two main groups:
