Abstract:
Two hundreds and fifty four ,f two days—old chicks, obtained from the poultry research centre, Faculty of Agriculture, Alexandria University, were used. in this study.The chicks were divided into five groups. The first group was fed on a normal supplemented diet while the other four groups were fed on four deficient diets in calcium, manganese, zinc and animal protein.The chicks of group 1 fed on the balanced diet showed the most rapid growth and the highest food utilization efficiency compared with the other deficient groups. The efficiency of food utilization averaged 0.318, 0.278, 0.287, 0.261 and 0.238 for the fiveRegarding the symptoms of deficiency the low calcium diet caused retarded growth, misshapen bones, enlargement of the hock joints, lamness and signs of pamlysis.
