Abstract:
In this study, the livers of 1010 cattle, 277 buffuloes and 350 sheep were exrunined from certainlocalitites in Behera Governorate from April 1981 until March 1982. Fasciola gigantica was the only species of Fasciola that was present. The prevalence of infestation was 30.01% in cattle,·44.04% in buffa- loes and 46.28% in sheep. The difference in theprevalence was not only limited to the type of animal, but it also differed according to sex variation of thesame species. The percentage of infestation among female animals was relatively higher than that in mal-es. It was 35.C:3<::)% among male cattle, while in femules it”was 68.2~%. Si~ilarly, the percentage of infestedmale buff aLo e s WaS ~_8.38%, while in females it was 62.12%. The male buffalo calves, which were slaughte-red at· the age of 40 days, were rarely infested vdth !. gip;antica. Regarding the seasonal prevalence, the highest variutions among cattle, buffal44. 65~~, 53.62% and 55.95% ”respecti vely. The lowest prevalence of infestation was observed during the sum- mer (dry season) namely 33.22% in cattle, 35.82% in buffaloes und J7.64% in sheep.
