Abstract:
Summary:-Diphenamid (N,N-dimethyl-2,2-diphenylacetamide) isan acetamid compound used as a selective pre-emergenceherbicide which controls a variety of grasses and broadleaf weeds, characterised by higp degree of water insol-ubility but easily soluble in fats and metabolised inplants and animals by N-dealkylation.The acute oral LD50 for 50 % wettable powder ofDiphenamid in Albino rats has been assessed as 1533.4mg/kg body weight. The sYmptoms of acute toxicity andpost-mortem examination were described and the possiblecauses of death have been discussed.Diphenamid had a faetotoxic effect when given indoses of t LD50 to pregnant female rats at the 18th dayof gestation period and induced death of faeti and mothersat the day of delivery, interferring with metabolic com-petence and proving its placental transfer.Studying the influence of prolonged less toxic dosesof Diphenamid in Albino rats to investigate its chroniceffect on body weight, blood picture, liver and kidneyfunction, carbohydrate metabolism and determining magnit-udes of Diphenamid residue in tissues and detection of
