Abstract:
The purpose of this study rms to investigate thealpha adrenergic activi t,- of the potent and Yiidely usedbutyrophenones represented bJT haloperidol.Haloperidol abolished the contractions producedby noradrenaline ,on the vas defernse indicating the alphaadrenergic blocking activity of the drug • IJoradrenaline failed to produce its stiLlUlatoryeffect on the seminal vesicles in the presence of haloperi-dol indicating the alpha adrenergic blocking activity ofthe drug. The effect of haloperidol and its interaction rdthnoradrenaline \7aS studied on the anococcyge Lous muac Le ,noradrenaline f’cLLed to produce its stimulatory effect inthe presence of haloperidol, indicating the alpha adrener-gic blocY~ng activity of the drug.Haloperidol abolished the contraction produced bynoradrenaline on the splenic capsule, indicating the alphaadrenergic blocking activity of the drug.
