Abstract:
It is generally accepted that normal reproductive performance in animals is closely associated with normalthyroid activi ty. However, the mode of action of thyroids on the gonads is :rather conflicting and confused. It is not yet clear whether the effect of thyroids is directly on the gonads or indir-ectly through the pituitary gland. For this reason, the presbetween thyroid activity and gonadotrophins in wale rabbi ts.Fifty mature male Baladi rabbits of an average weight of 1500 g were used. Food and water were provided ad ~ibitum. The daily food intake per rabbit was determined and was found to be 60 g. The requested doses of test material were mixed with the ration. rabbits of the ;first group were fed the ordinary ration and were considered as control. The second group wasfed 12 ug and the third group received 25 ug I-thyroxine per rabbit daily. The fourth group was fed a diet con-taining 60 mg , and the fifth group received 120 mg ofpropylethiouracil per rabbit daily.
