Abstract:
Literature about the alterations in the liver structure due to endotoxin or neurotoxin or E. coli infection J role of shock in fibrosis ..• histogenesis of the kupffer cells or liver macrophages and ultrastructure of the normal hepatic sinusoids are revieExperimental acute and chronic neurotoxin shock in 40 Wisterrats ( of both sexes) was induced by intravenous injection of E. colineurotoxin. serotype 0 139:k 82 (B). 14 rats ( of both sexes) wereconsidered as control. The clinical symptomes and the individualbody weights were recorded .. After the first injection 16 rats died and the remaining ratsreceived the second injection. Following the second injection2 rats died and 6 rats were sacrificed. After the third injection2 rats died and 4 rats were sacrificed. No mortality after the fourthinjection could be found and 8 rats from 20 rats were injected withH3 -thymidin one hour before sacrification to label the proliferating cells. Dying rats were considered as acute shock rats while sacrificedrats after repeated neurotoxin injections represented the prolonged shock rats.Specimens from the liver of dead and sacrificed rats were stu-died by light m ic r scope , but for the transmission and scanningelectron microscope specimens from sacrificed rats only could beused. For the autoradiographic studies only specimens from therats which were injected by H 3 -thymidin were used.Congestion) microthrom bosis, focal hepatic cell necrosis’ andedema of the portal connective tissue could be identified by light
