Abstract:
The role of Proteus organism in eggs, embryos and chicks was studied during the present work. Bacteriological examinations revealed that 98 nOD-fertile eggs were free from Proteus organism, while 5 isolates were detected from 187 dead in-shell embryosrepresent 2.6%. Out of 310 examined chicks, 33 isolates of Proteus(10.6%) were recovered. Thirty eight isolates recovered from dead embryos and dead baby chicks proved morphologically and biochemicallyto be Pr. mirabilis. Experimental infections to day-old chicks provedthat the disease picture was more severe in case of yolksac route in comparison with oral route. Proteus mirabilis isolated from dead chicks and embryos were fatal to infected 7-day-01d embryos in rateof 100~, 80% respectively. In vitro sensitivity test of Proteus mirabilia revealed that the tested isolates were highly sensitiveto gentamycine and kanamycine.
