Abstract:
Seventy three members of the equine speciesincluding : 34 horses, 18 mules and 21 donkeys werecastrated using various surgical procedures to chosethe most suitable technique.Several parameters were used to assess theefficiency of these castration methods. ThereforeThe following varients were investigated: a) Bacteriologico.l examination of the castrationwounds. b) Blood picture : sedimentation rate, total anddifferential blood counts.Level of androgens before and after castrationHistopathological examination of the testiclesfollowing percutaneous crushing of the cord and aftercrushing and ligation.The results indica ted that oedema, scirrhous cordand bleeding were the comrilon complication encountered. higher incidence of oedema was obs0rved in animalscastrated by the unc:)vcred method in contrast to coveredcastration.
