Atherosclerosis in cattle

Abstract:
The present investigation is based on macroscopical and microscopical examination of 188 aortas of Egyptian cattle, of different age and sex, and 134 aortae of buffaloes. Thesecases were gathered from slaughter houses and dead animals subjected to post mortem examination in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Giza.The per cent of the lesion in cattle was 47.$ while it was 37.31 in buffaloes. The youngest cattle which showed arteriosclerosis was 1 1/2 years of age while in buffalo was3 1/2 years old see Figs. (1,5).The site of the lesion was mainly in the arch, followed by abdominal and finally the thoracic part of the aorta.(See Tables 2 & 4).The lesions were classified according to the following:(1) Arteries sclerotic lesion:Yellow (fatty) streaks and plaques.White fibrous plaques.
