Abstract:
Urinary calcali were found in a relatively high in- cidence, . spec LaLl.y in the kidneys examined of agedbuffaloes (34.37% of cases found to contain calculi). Their ~hape varied ia d~fferent cases and even in different-situations inside tllO same kLlney 0 Some of them, r-epz-e serrbing most of the calculi, had the appearance of fine sandy particles packed together in a small or larger cyst. Others were larger gravel-like stones of smooth surface and very hard consistencbean sized calculi or even more larger. Larger stones varied in shape and colour from a regular, knobby, rough, faceted, branching or hadarp pointed projections. Their colour also differerl from greyish white, yellowishtsandy ooloured or dark brown. Other calculi had shiny smooth surface. Some were of extreme hard texture, while others were fragile and easily to beinside the renal parenchyma or they were located in a minor or major calyx and occupied most of its cavity_Some cysts were lined by very thick investment of connective tissue, or may be lli~ed by thin fibrous tissue sac inside the medulla or the cortex. In other cases, the wall ofthe cyst showed haemorrhagic spots in the surroWlding parenchyma and fibrous tissue wall itself. Sometimesthe wall of the renal pelvis was found to be ulcerated due to irritation of the sharp pointed rough surfaceof the calculi present in it.
