Abstract:
The present work showed that diethylstilboesterol has an antibacterial effect in concentration of 50, 75? 100 and 150 mw’ml. against Gram positive bacteria includedStaph. aureus, Str. pyogenes, C. diEhtheriae Listeria monocytogenes type(3), Listeria monocytogenes type (4)and B. subtilis. The minimum inhibition dose of diethylstilboesterolindicatefr the variable sensitivity towards those bacteria which varied between 0.71-1.215 mg/ml. On the other hand natural hormones viz: oestradiol dipropionate, proges- terone dipropionate and testesterone dipropionate in con- centration of 50, 75, 100 either Gram positive or Gram negative bacteria. This variation in action between the natural and synthetichormones (diethy1sti1boesterol) could be attributed to either the difference in their chemical structure irrespec-tive of their biological activity or to the degree of variation of the metabolic processes in bacteria produced by each of the hormonal SUbstances. This difference inresponsiveness may also be attributed to a decrease in oxy&n uptake of bacteria under the influence of certain
