Abstract:
In this work at first some faetors affecting CL tetani toxin production as composition and pH of media, temperature and period of incubation were studied. Three different fluid media namely thioglycollate. Millano and Mueller and Miller media were used inthree standard international toxigenic strains but of variable potency (Teheran, Dutch and Swedish 7570/24 MD strains). The result indicated that: 1) Mueller and Miller medium had ’the more favour-able components to produce tne highly potent toxin as detected by MLn for mice Or flocculation unit per ml in Swedish and Teheran strains and a toxin of moderate titre and units by Holland strain. 2) At pH of 7-7.2 Qf the three media, all the three strainat 35°C for 5th to 7th day then either MLD/ml Or LF/ml began to decrease.3) Muller and Miller medium at pH 7-7.2 cultivated with Swedish strain and incubated at 35°0 for 5th - 7th day, a highly toxigenic toxin was produced.
