Interrelationship between the thyroid,ovaries and gonadotrophins

The present investigation was planned to clarify some aspects of the relationship between the thyroid activity and gonadotrophins in adult female rats!These rats were divided into 11 groups of 40 rats.Each group was considered as a separate experimental unit.One group was chosen in oestrous and another in dioestrous p~se and considered as controls. The remaining nine groups were ovariectomized, thyroidectomized and the two combine dwith each other. The effect of oestradiol and progesterone afurinistration to the forementioned groups was investigated.The LH and FEH content of the sera and pituitaries of rats were assayed by haemoagglutination inhibition immunoassay technique, for sake of confirmation these hormones were alsodetermined by biological method. Comparison between the two methods was attempted.In the present investigation the values obtained for serum LH and FSH by immunoassay run in parallel pattern tothose obtained by biological assay!The results obtained revealed that :Ovariectomy resulted in increased serum and pituitary LE level more than that ohserved in intact oestrous or dioestrous rats.
